Mike was one of my best friends of the entire first half of my life. I met him and his brother Eric (Class of '78) during summer school at Jackson Elementary. I think it was third grade. We didn't see each other again until Muir but what an influence he had on my high school career and my career choices. He was a stock broker with Crowell Weedon and was coming home from his office one evening in 1994 after running in the Long Beach Marathon. While driving, he was broadsided by a motorist who ran a red light fleeing police at the intersection of Lake and Colorado. This was before they had the level of live breaking news coverage of high-speed chases that they do today. Somehow I feel that particular incident heightened the public's awareness and thirst for such coverage (though I'm personally sickened by the attention they get). I still have the set of China mugs Mike gave Lorena and me as a wedding gift. Eric came to our 20-year reunion in 1999 and we made him an honorary member of our class. I hope he can make it to the 2009 reunion.

What a tragic, unnecessary loss. I remember Mike from water polo and Key Club. He always made me laugh. I can hear his voice even now. He always played the big dumb galooph, but just to cover up that he was actually pretty bright, and boy was he tenacious in the water! It sounds like that translated into a pretty successful life before he died.

Mike, you are missed.

We went to LA to listen to bands for the prom. He drove and we were all so nervous about scratching his dad's car. He was such a gentleman for a high schooler (key club boy) and all that. Really a sweet kid.
