In 2012 our 128 year old Santa Ana Fire Department was outsourced to the Or age County Fire Authority. I moved out of my home for the last 23 years in downtown Santa Ana, to the hills and wildland of Trabuco Hills. Late in 2012 I took the Captain's exam and was promoted to Fire Captain/Paramedic. Where they sent me to Buena Park, Laguna Woods and back to my home in downtown Santa Ana where I am assigned to Truck 75 (hook and ladder). Still enjoy responding to fires and emergencies, though it is a bit different putting your people in harms way, though you did and do it all the time. Since our little ones are still in middle and elementary school, I will be staying on the job for a while longer. No complaints, never felt like I worked a day in my life! It's been an awesome adventure so far!
Became a firefighter/paramedic with the City of Santa Ana, where I also have been assigned the P.D. SWAT team as a Tactical Paramedic.
I am married to a wonderful young lady that has been medically retired from the CHP.
We have a stable full of kidlets. Two in college. One trying to get into the nursing program after completing her AS. Our newest grad is in San Francisco beginning her first year of college. One in high school, graduating in '10 and who is a varsity song leader, and competes in jazz dance.
Awesome moment..... watching my daughters cheer at CIF playoffs for Paloma Valley High as they take on....Muir at Muir (they have lights, not very good ones either) I couldn't lose. Muir squeaked it out. My girls looked at the campus and couldn't believe this was where dad went...
Our little ones are a little man, full of energy in first grade that enjoys swimming, hip hop dance, tumbling and football. Our adopted little girl is in preschool, and loves her competition cheer team, dances ballet and tap, and is beginning to swim like a fish like the rest of her sibs...
I our spare time we enjoy many things. We love taking our boat out to the Colorado River, taking in wakeboarding, swimming and general sun fun. As well as jumping in our plush diesel pusher motorhome for (can't really call it camping) camping. We love to head into the mountains to explore the high mountain lakes, kayak the rivers and rock climb. We tow my jeep, and off we go on dad's adventures...
I have truly been blessed in my life. As we all have experienced our own peaks and valleys, I can honestly say I would do it all again. I married my best friend, and soul mate. I have an awesome stable full great kids that are kind, considerate and loving. Our family has such an awesome energy, that is filled with laughter, fun and comedy that each day is its own adventure.
My own free time besides my daddy adventures are filled with riding my road bike. My recent highlight was being able to ride with Lance Armstrong as he came out of retirement... I train for century or longer bike rides, after hanging up my marathon running shoes... I am a dad with multiple cameras that is teased by all about my double and triple camera shoots, as I document every movement and breath of our family. I translate this into a year end family dvd for all of our family members that live from up north to the east coast and in europe...

School Story or Memories:

I enjoyed Muir very much. From our first steps onto the campus as Freshmen as we entered this new world it seemed so big, new and fresh. So many opportunities to try different things and not enough years. I regret not finishing my senior year out, as I planned to graduate early from my first year. I took summer school, and went to PCC after school to gather units. I will never forget entering my senior year and being called into the counseling office and told that I was done. I asked to stay so I could play sports and enjoy some more electives, but it was not to happen. They told me I had to move on. So PCC became full time. As everyone enjoyed grad night and prom, I was taking finals.... I tell my kids to enjoy everything high school has to offer as it ends to soon, and it is a huge part of your life. I enjoyed working stage crew, spending nights there as we worked for all the spring productions, soccer team was fun, as was the paramedical science classes. I loved playing ice hockey in Pasadena with many fellow Mustangs too. I was lucky to land a spot in the first LA County Fire Explorer class, and hey it worked as I am still doing it today...
I remember the many fights that occurred on campus, and having my share of them. I did not enjoy that to much, as they hurt either if you won or lost. But being a tall guy, it was easy to be picked out of a crowd and challenged. It always seemed like I had to prove myself every year in the beginning just to be left alone. I was shy, friends to all, never really standing out. I had my crushes and girlfriends. But it it still was an awkward time, as we all were trying to grow up.
I enjoyed the pep rallys and the cheerleaders supporting the various sport teams. I remember the cheerleaders dancing on American Bandstand too.
The car rallys were fun, riding motorcycles around and getting off the bus.
The aroma of certain herbs and smells from weaving its way from the bathrooms. And the many acres of campus, that people could ditch and hide if the elected not to go to class. The cafeteria, which I only ventured into once below the stage, had its own aroma wafting up into the stage area. I sat in the bowl for my time everyday at lunch, with basically the same people in the same spots everyday of every ear. It was amazing how that sorta became your spot of real estate...
The Blue and Gold of Muir, the Mustang, the Turkey Tussle, the dances to learning to lock.... The gangs, the clubs, the sport teams and drum corp.... The quad, the stage, the sport fields and pools... Auto, metal, and wood shop.... Drivers Ed, consumer ed, spanish and german....
The little theater, the student parking lot, the time capsules and the loop.... Wow how each area, and item holds a spark, a memory and a growth of each of us...
Long live Hoofbeats!!!!
And remember... The Class of 79 was FINE!
